An urban space for all purposes - San Francisco, CA

A typical San Francisco Garden that had warped into a useless space years before the owner moved in.

The renewed space was designed with family city living in mind. Lush, yet drought-tolerant plants create a feeling of private space amongst the apartment buildings while utilizing every corner of the garden.

The Children’s Garden has a raised-bed vegetable garden that is stocked with fog-resistant plants such as cherry tomatoes and zucchini that are fun to eat off the vine. Next to the vegetable garden is a “rock pit” for the kids. Just as much fun as sand, but less mess and no worries about the typical sand-in-the mouth tricks.

The far Southeast corner features a quiet area for conversations and cocktails. While a lounge chair in the upper Northeast corner catches the last of the sun in the evening.

The lower cement patio was turned into an eating space with teak table, high-end bar-b-que and a heater for foggy SF evenings.

“The design has worked for our lifestyle because we wanted it all: an adult cocktail space, a lounging space, a vegetable garden and a place for the kids to enjoy. While our space is confined, Marisa made it all happen while keeping it concise and functional. ”
